Make Your Own Chamomile Infused Oil
Ingredients & Supplies
- 1 cup dried chamomile flowers
- 1 cup carrier oil (such as olive oil, almond oil or jojoba oil).
- 1 pint (or larger) glass jar with tight fitting lid
- Strainer or Cheesecloth
- Dark glass bottles
- Labels
Instructions
Prepare the Chamomile Flowers
Ensure the chamomile flowers are completely dry. Fresh flowers can introduce moisture which may lead to mold. If using dried flowers from a store make sure they are free of chemicals.
Fill the Jar
Place the dried chamomile flowers into your clean glass jar. If you are using a pint-sized jar you should fill it about halfway with the flowers.
Add the Carrier Oil
Pour the carrier oil over the chamomile flowers, making sure they are completely submerged. Stir gently with a clean utensil to ensure there are no air bubbles.
Seal and Store
Seal the jar tightly with its lid. Store the jar in a warm, sunny place (like a windowsill) for 4-6 weeks. Shake the jar gently once or twice a day to help mix the oil and chamomile.
Strain the Oil
After 4-6 weeks, strain the oil through a cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer into a clean bowl. Make sure to squeeze out as much oil as possible from the chamomile flowers to maximize the infusion.
Bottle the Infused Oil
Transfer the strained oil into dark glass bottles for storage. This helps protect the oil from light, which can degrade its quality over time. Label the bottles with the date and contents.
Store and Use
Store the chamomile-infused oil in a cool, dark place. It should last for up to 6-12 months.
